We are the Šahinpašić’s, living on a mountain in Bosnia, close to Sarajevo.
We both were born into urban families and have lived most of our lives downtown – in Helsinki, Sarajevo, and Ljubljana. Yet in early 2013 we found ourselves packing our belongings and starting anew, running a mountain lodge guesthouse in an extremely rural setting in Bosnia, at an altitude of 1300 meters.
We became rewilders of our own lives.
We are a multicultural and -lingual family, as Mr. Š is originally from Sarajevo, and I, the writer, was born in Helsinki, Finland. Iita, our first daughter was born in 2011, and Aimi, our second daughter joined us in 2014.
We’ve got a small farm of critters, too. A the moment there are six dogs, three cats, three goat mamas, a donkeys, and a horse.
Before hopping up the mountain, we lived in Ljubljana, Slovenia. I used to run a company providing service production for film and photography. Mr. Š had his business of scenography and set building.
Nowadays life is full, but also simple and slow. In true Balkan style.
